Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 31, 2026

Daily Science stores almost everything on your device and collects almost nothing about you. This page explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data — including the one exception, described below: ads shown to free-tier users.

What stays on your device

Your favorites, your reading history, your appearance/language/haptics preferences, and your daily reminder time are all stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. None of this is sent to us, to any server we operate, or to any third party. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.

Notifications

The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled directly on your device through Apple's UNUserNotificationCenter. No push token is generated, and no notification content is sent through any external notification service. Daily Science has no server-side push infrastructure.

Accounts

Daily Science does not currently have user accounts, sign-in, or any form of cross-device sync. Everything the app knows about your usage lives only on the one device it's installed on.

Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store and managed using RevenueCat, a third-party subscription-management service. RevenueCat receives the transaction/entitlement data Apple's StoreKit provides in order to tell the app whether you're a Premium subscriber — it does not receive your reading history, favorites, or any other in-app content data. RevenueCat's own privacy practices are documented at revenuecat.com/privacy. We do not receive or store your payment details — Apple handles billing entirely.

Advertising

Free-tier users see a small banner ad on the Today and Discover tabs, served by Google's AdMob. Premium subscribers never see ads — upgrading removes this entirely.

Right after your first launch, the app asks once for App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission. If you allow tracking, AdMob may serve a personalized ad using your device's advertising identifier. If you decline, or haven't answered yet, the app requests a non-personalized ad instead — you'll still see an ad, just not one built from your identifier.

To do this, AdMob collects device and advertising identifiers, IP address, and general device/technical information in order to serve and measure ads. This is Google's data, handled under Google's own policies — see policies.google.com/privacy and Google's AdMob data disclosure for what it specifically collects. The ad SDK does not receive your reading history, favorites, or any other in-app content data.

What we don't do

Content delivery

The app's science archive ships bundled inside the app itself. A future version may optionally fetch content updates from Daily Science's own content delivery network; those requests, if and when they happen, ask for article content only and carry no personal or device-identifying data.

Children

Daily Science does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information from anyone, full stop.

Changes to this policy

If what the app actually does changes, this page will be updated to match before that change ships. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current text.
